58" x 66" (1.47 m x 1.68 m)
The most common way to make Celtic knot quilts is to weave and appliqué strips of fabric. I designed a method of piecing the blocks, making this construction truly unique. The Celtic knot tree pattern is my own design.
The fabrics are cotton batiks and prints. The background is stipple quilted. The tree is densely quilted in the fabric vines. The peacock's body is raw silk. The rest of the peacock is made of cashmere and rayon yarns, thousands of seed beads in silver, black, and tan, and beads of glazed ceramic, hex-cut glass, freshwater pearl, glass, and sodalite. The apples include beads of etched silver, coral, and cloisonné.
Finished with a hanging sleeve for a decorative rod.
This piece was featured at the New England Quilt Museum, Lowell, MA.
